About

Special Olympics Massachusetts provides year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, prepare for entry into school and community programs, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Special Olympics Massachusetts volunteers are generous, impactful people who are building sustainable communities of acceptance and inclusion. Through the action of each volunteer, more athletes are training, competing, and experiencing the joy of high quality sports.

Volunteers support over 14,000 athletes across the state of Massachusetts. Volunteer roles include coaches, teammates (Unified partners), volunteers at competitions and events, volunteer leaders, medical volunteers, fundraisers, advocates, and digital remote volunteers to name just a few. Over 15,000 volunteers were involved in 2019 to build and support inclusive sports and fitness opportunities year-round. We look forward to providing even more volunteer opportunities as we move out of the pandemic.
